AFSA K-12

Minnesota

Mission
The Academy for Sciences and Agriculture (AFSA), a public charter school for grades K-12, engages learners in academically rigorous, student-centered, hands-on experiences and leadership opportunities within a science, environmental education, and agricultural context.

Vision
AFSA will develop lifelong learners who are curious, care for others and have high skill levels in applied sciences, and will be prepared for a future in a diverse, global and changing society.

Our School
The Academy for Sciences & Agriculture (AFSA K-12) was founded in 2001 with the purpose of providing agricultural literacy to an urban and suburban population. The school has expanded to include career opportunities in five areas of science, including: Engineering, Animal Science, Plant Science, Environmental Science, and Food Science. In 2005, the location in Vadnais Heights opened its doors. This facility was purposefully designed to fit our curriculum and mission. In 2014, AFSA added grades 5 - 6 and in 2019 added grades K - 4. With the addition of K-4, an additional building was needed. The K-8 building was opened in 2019 and is located in Little Canada. AFSA K-12's locations allow the inclusion of students from all northern Twin Cities areas to attend.

The district is home to 20 elementary schools, seven middle schools, seven high schools (five comprehensive, one alternative, one blended), Specialty Schools and Programs, including a preschool program, a hybrid K-8 school, our Home School Academy, the School in the Woods for fourth grade students, and the New Opportunities Program. Brooklyn Center Community Schools

Minnesota

We Stand Front and Center For You
In Brooklyn Center, we want everything we offer to reflect the community we’re a part of. We use inclusive processes — amplifying student, staff and community voices — to shape district decisions, introduce programs, and inform curriculum choices. When we all contribute, we create a loving place where learners can thrive.

Here, students come first. We’re here to nurture the love of learning in each child. Our greatest success is when students truly discover their unique genius and embrace a life of authenticity and purpose.

Community Schools
We know that for each child, learning starts when basic needs are met. With over 100 partnerships with community organizations, we’re able to better serve the whole child — eliminating barriers to learning so that each child can freely pursue their potential. Services are conveniently located in the buildings, making it easy to keep students up-to-date on their medical, dental and mental health needs.

Anti-racism in BCCS
In Brooklyn Center, we advocate for social, economic and political change to meet the needs of our beautifully eclectic community. And we know that diversity must lead to inclusion if we want to make meaningful progress. So, instead of avoiding discomfort, we work to reject our biases — big or small — by confronting them with ferocity and compassion.

Canyons School District

Utah

Canyons School District is the fifth-largest district in Utah serving 34,000 students at 49 schools. We employ close to 2,000 teachers, some of whom were drawn here by the state’s natural beauty; how many major metropolitan areas are footsteps from eight ski resorts and hiking trails or a half day’s drive from five national parks?
Others know that because Canyons was created less than a decade ago by a vote of the people, we enjoy uncommon levels of community support. Our patrons have supported two school improvement bonds, exceeding half-a-million dollars, and pay increases every year since the District’s inception. Canyons also has more coaching supports and free professional development opportunities to support our teachers than any other district in Utah. CSD is the place to be!

Our small class sizes mean that teachers get to know each student individually, enabling them to celebrate their accomplishments and be readily available to help them with their individual needs.
