Teacher Job Description

A.SCOPE
Plans and conducts a daily program for a group of children in accordance with the center’s philosophy and recognized methods under the direction of the lead teacher. Is responsible to the center director and lead teacher for carrying out all assigned duties in an effective manner.

B.JOB DUTIES
1.Establishes a positive Christian learning environment with regard to the needs of each child.
2.Works with the lead teacher do design and implement a curriculum to meet the physical, spiritual, emotional, social, and intellectual needs of each child within the group. This will include writing lesson plans, planning units, teaching lessons, and working directly with the children.
3.Prepares appropriate educational materials to meets individual needs.
4.Observes and reports to the lead teacher the emotional, physical, social and intellectual development of each child.
5.Establishes and maintains good relationships with the parents through meetings, conferences, Family Nights, etc. Is able to answer specific questions or problems that parents may have on their child’s learning and developmental needs.
6.Recognizes the need for each child to develop a positive self-concept and Christian faith.
7.Becomes familiar with all records of the children within the group.
8.Helps the lead teacher supervise all assistants and aides within the group. Assists these people in answering questions, dealing with problems, learning and carrying out policies and procedures of the center, etc.
9.Has thorough knowledge of all center policies and procedures and follow them faithfully.
10.Gives input to the center director for written staff evaluations, as needed.
11.Assists the lead teacher in supervising staff in order to develop a competent team, capable of achieving the program goals.
12.Participates in meal times, turning these times into educational experiences.
13.Shares responsibility for the food preparation and serving, general maintenance of the building and grounds, outdoor play periods and housekeeping duties.
14.Is supportive of the center’s Christian goals and purposes and works cooperatively with the church and early learning center staff to keep these goals a priority.
15.Notifies the director in advance of shortages in snack, curriculum and necessity items before the stock is totally depleted.
16.Is available for parent conferences and / or personal conferences for children in your room
17.Supervises and manages a classroom of children.
18.Is responsible for the group in the lead teacher’s absence.
19.Notifies the director when a parent or child needs additional attention or professional referral.
20.Creates a positive learning environment through the ordered arrangement, appearance and maintenance of the room.

C.REQUIREMENTS
1.Meets the state requirements of education and experience needed for the position.
2.Is a Christian role model for the children, parents and other staff.
3.Is able to relate well to children.
4.Is able to function quickly and precisely in a crisis situation.
5.Participates in an orientation program.
6.Completes the appropriate number of in-service hours each year.
7.Attends and participates in staff meetings, training sessions, or other events, such as Family Nights and the Christmas Program, as required.
8.Is able to lift and carry children.
9.Is able to provide an appropriate speech model while interacting with both parents and children.
10.Is able to see, hear, think, and move quickly enough to supervise children safely.
11.Holds a certificate in both First Aid and CPR training.
12.Is able to delegate responsibility.
13.Must notify the lead teacher as soon as possible in the event of illness. A minimum of 2 hours notice is required.
14.Must adhere to the center’s Behavior Guidance policies at all times and check to make sure all aides and assistants are also following these policies.
