Position Description:

Position Summary:
To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in an elementary or secondary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Work is performed under the supervision of the School Principal.

Position Purpose: Under general supervision, serves as a classroom teacher; engages and supports all students in learning in accordance with the State academic content standards; maintains and creates an effective environment for students learning; organizes subject matter for student learning; plans instruction and designs learning experiences for all students; assesses student learning; and develops as a professional educator.


Principal Accountabilities/Essential Functions:

Provides learning experiences and teaches pre-reading, reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, health, art, physical education, music, leadership and other general elements of the course of study as specified in State law and in administrative regulations and procedures of the District in accordance with the State content standards.

-Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
-Develops schemes of work, lesson plans and tests that are in accordance with established procedures.
-Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
-Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
-Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
-Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
-Provide appropriate feedback on work.
-Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
-Develops and uses instructional materials suitable for verbal and/or visual instruction of students with a wide r-range of mental, physical and emotional maturity.
-Provides individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and motivate students.
-Establishes and maintains standards of classroom management required to achieve effective participation in all activities.
-Evaluates academic and social growth of students and keeps appropriate records.
-Prepares and provides progress reports; report cards; and other formal and informal assessment data to parents.
-Maintains electronic assessment data for access by parents as needed to strengthen communication between the home and the school.
-Ensures that continuous formative and summative assessments are conducted to gauge student progress and specific teaching and learning needs
-Communicates with parents through a variety of means.
-Incorporates the use of technology in the delivery of lessons.
-Holds parent conferences to discuss the individual student's progress and interpret the school program.
-Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude and learning problems.
-Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays such as bulletin boards, interest centers, etc.
-Maintains professional competence through professional development activities provided by the School/District.
-Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop goals to be used in the performance evaluation process in accordance with District guidelines.
-Assists in the selection and requisition of instructional materials and maintains appropriate inventory records.
-Supervises students during classroom instructional time and out-of-classroom activities.
-Participates in faculties and/or District committees and activities.
-Participates in Child Find Teams, Individualized Educational Plan meetings as required to meet the needs of the child.
-Participates in instructional preparation time and uses preparation time for the purpose of which it is designed.
-Provides instruction using various instructional strategies to meet the needs of all learners that ensure student engagement.
-Chaperones or supervises extracurricular activities and field trips as assigned.
-Cooperatively pursues alternative solutions to remediate pupil learning problems, and to enhance expanded academic, social, and emotional growth opportunities.
-Analyzes student data to accurately evaluate and support student learning.
-Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
-Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
-Participate in appropriate professional activities.
-Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations as directed.
-Collaborates and articulates with administrators and teachers to ensure program needs are aligned with school and district achievement goals.
-Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
-Attendance is an essential function of this position.
-Performing all other duties as assigned.

Licenses/Certificates/Special Requirements:
-A valid Minnesota teaching credential authorizing instruction.
-Ability to pass a Criminal Background Check.
-Current driver’s license

Responsibilities
The LoveWorks Academy Special Education Paraprofessional role includes (but is not limited to):

- Supporting students identified under the Special Education program with academic, behavioral and social/emotional goals.
- Maintain confidentiality of student and family information as required under FERPA.
- Support building an exemplary classroom culture that balances high expectations with love and empowerment.
- Building trust and community via clear and timely communication with students and families.
- Adhering to the commitment to “go beyond” to ensure each student reaches their potential in a positive safe school environment.

Required Education, Credentials, & Experience
- Requires a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and two years of post-secondary education or successful completion of the ParaPro.
- Ability to work with staff to provide services to students with disabilities.
- Previous experience in working with students with disabilities is preferred.

Position Description:

Position Purpose: To teach elementary school students with disabilities including SLD, EBD, ABS, Developmental Delay, and Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Organization Relationships: This position reports directly to the Special Education Coordinator and will interact on a regular basis with other staff, teachers, and external customers. This position works cooperatively with other school staff.

Principal Accountabilities/Essential Functions/Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. -Administer standardized ability and achievement tests to elementary students with special needs
-Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, or other professionals to develop individual education plans (IEPs).
-Employ special educational strategies or techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory- and perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, or memory. Encourage students to explore learning opportunities or persevere with challenging tasks to prepare them for later grades.
-Develop IEPs designed to promote students’ educational, physical, or social development. Develop or implement strategies to meet the needs of students with a variety of disabilities.
-Teach socially acceptable behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification and positive reinforcement. Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students. --
-Modify the general education curriculum for special-needs students based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies. Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports on children and activities, as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
-Ability to pass a Criminal Background Check.

Education and Experience:
The Position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education with an emphasis in Specific -Learning Disabilities, or a closely-related field, plus at least 6 months of experience working with students with special needs.
-Position also requires a Minnesota state license in Specific Learning Disabilities, in compliance with the state regulations.
-An additional license in Behavioral Disorder (EBD) is a plus.

Language Skills:
-Ability to prepare Individual Education Plans (IEP) through SPED Forms and keep accurate records of each student’s plan and progress.
-Excellent oral, written, interpersonal and communication skills.
-Ability to use personal computer and standard business and other work related software with minimal instruction.

Mathematical Ability:
-Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Mental Essential Functions and Reasoning Ability:
-Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
-Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
-Excellent analytical, research, deductive reasoning and decision-making abilities.
-Ability to work and prioritize independently with the capacity to collaborate with others.
-Demonstrated ability to learn and apply newly acquired skills and knowledge.
