Terms of Employment:
• 180-day contract

Lake County Central, Red Lake Falls, Stephen-Argyle Central, Warren-Alvarado-Oslo,
and Win-E-Mac.

Position Description:

Full Time Sign Language Interpreter, Area Special Education Cooperative

Ada-Borup West Elementary #2910, Ada MN – 45 minutes north of Fargo/Moorhead area
40 hours/week | Monday – Friday | 8:00 to 4:00 p.m. & can vary earlier or later
Salary pay + full single health policy and life insurance ($25K), sick (15 days per year up to 120 days) & personal leave (3 days per year), PERA, Paid RID & MRID Dues and EIPA testing, and weekly mentoring available.

Anticipated Start Date: Fall, 2021

Summary of Position:
Area Special Education Cooperative out of East Grand Forks is seeking an interpreter at Ada-Borup West Elementary #2910 to facilitate communication between students who are deaf and their peers, staff and other adults, using American Sign Language. The educational interpreter provides interpreting and support services (educational tutoring) to students who are d/hh being educated in their local school district. Other duties may be performed when they do not interfere with interpreting include tutoring, participation in meetings and being an active member of the school’s educational team. We currently have a team of 7 interpreters for 6 students who require communication access. Our goal is to build local capacity to ensure that our interpreters can take sick leave or personal leave as they desire! We compensate with equity in comparison to teachers that we employ.

Terms of Employment:
180 – 8/hour days per year with summer opportunities available. Salary is based on degree and experience, negotiated (individually) yearly by the board. *Will provide mentoring if needed. *Currently ranging from $35.16 - $59.78 per hour. Benefits: Full Single Health BCBS Policy, PERA, Life & Accidental Death Policy, Paid Sick (10.5) and Personal Leave (3).

Certification Requirements:
Certified American Sign Language Interpreter (NAD Level III, RID Certified), National Interpreter Certification or Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment Certification @ 4.0

Desirable Qualification and Skills:
Ability to serve as a facilitator of communication: to interpret. When the need arises for both interpreting and some other task, i.e. recess/hall/cafeteria, supervision, tutoring, etc. interpreting takes priority and should not be interrupted.
Deaf Culture

Receptive and Expressive American Sign Language Skills
Organizing the necessary materials for teaching sign language
Behavior modification strategies
Ability to be flexible regarding work assignments

Additional Information
Individuals pursing certification may apply and mentoring will be provided
Receive full reimbursement of your first Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) exam that is used to create your mentoring plan as required by state statute
